John Patrick McAuliffe

1934 - 2010


John Patrick McAuliffe 1934-2010 Passed peacefully in his home on April 3, 2010.

He was the loving husband of Patricia for almost 52 years, devoted father of Michelle (Don) Torre and Mariann (Rick) Ward, and cherished grandfather of Kaitlin and Kara Torre and Stacey and Jeffrey Ward. Also survived by eight nieces, one nephew, and several godchildren. Predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Lucille McAuliffe, and sisters, Margaret Gallardo and Patricia Fabbri.

A native San Franciscan, he attended St. John's School, St. Joseph's Seminary Menlo Park, and graduated from the University of San Francisco, Class of 1957.

John worked in the grocery business for over 40 years, as an independent grocer and later as a food broker for Maillard and Schmiedel and Bromar.

Family and faith were the foundations of his life.

He was an active parishioner of St. Sylvester's Chapel and St. Raphael's Church, and felt honored to be a Eucharistic Minister at both churches.

He enjoyed traveling especially cruising, reading, playing Pedro, bocce, golf, and dominoes in the company of his family and friends. He took great pleasure in attending his grandchildren's sporting events and school functions. John was very involved in various organizations including the Marin Bocce Federation and Serra Club.

Interment will be private at Holy Cross Cemetery. A Memorial Mass to celebrate John's life will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at 12:00 noon at St. Raphael's Church in San Rafael. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sulpician Fathers, 320 Middlefield Road, Menlo Park, CA 94025, or to the charity of your choice. John will be greatly missed by his family and the many friends whose lives he has touched.
